Trump Calls Loved Ones of Shot Military Personnel to the Presidential Residence
Former President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has invited the family of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the presidential home.
He noted that he contacted her family and they were “devastated”.
Details on the Devastating Shooting
US army specialist Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a attack on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Vigils across the state have been held in their remembrance.
Presidential Offer
The commander-in-chief explained he’s discussed a White House visit for the loved ones of both soldiers of the state Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” Trump told the press. “And similarly with him, recover or not.”
Public Response
Attendees came together over the past few days at Webster County high school in West Virginia to honor Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been working with the military unit as part of Trump’s national effort to assist policing efforts in Washington DC.
Paying Tribute to Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that teachers desired. She behaved with calm resilience, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that lifted people around her,” Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s former high school, told the media. “She was kind, considerate and always eager to support those in need.”
Service arrangements for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Legal Measures and Policy Adjustments
Law enforcement have indicted a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of homicide and charges of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy led the government to pause asylum applications and temporarily stop issuing visas to holders of Afghan passports.
Status of Wolfe
The airman, a native of the city, began his service in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, according to the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader Patrick Morrisey stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
Attorney general the attorney general stated on a news show that she also intended to speak to the family.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from her high school in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a MP with honor, according to the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had courage,” Morrisey addressed the audience at the memorial. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to endure.”
