The network's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.
In October of last year, Adult Swim welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. During a period often characterized by dark humor, this show's sincerity struck a chord and propelled it a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the world of the Campbell family. The show follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.
"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Network Praise
In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who found the show and supported its peculiarly charming sensibility.
"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about watching this endearing family go about their simple existence.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its current cynical streak. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.
“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
The Path Forward
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well catalyze that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to experience the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
