The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and introducing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is what Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
